KREDOUW FARM
lies at the base of the Kredouw Pass on the R407 between Prince Albert and Klaarstroom. The farm is dwarfed by the majestic Swartberg Mountains which defines the southern border of the farm and runs down the Prince Albert Valley.
The Prince Albert Valley, although part of the Great Karoo, has its own micro-climate as a result it is fertile allowing the production of fruit, grapes, olives, nuts and onion seed.

OLIVE OIL
Our objective ,when producing the oil, is to make a very definate oil with a strong pungency. See attachment headed Olive Oil pungency and bitterness.
The way this is achieved is through the variety of trees, the type of soil on the farm, the amount of water that reaches the olives, the time of picking and the pressing machine itself. The amount of water provided is by nature of the area low even though the trees are irrigated.
The picking time can be when the olives are green or yellow / purple / green or when they are turning black. On Kredouw they will tend towards the green resulting in oil with a green colour and a strong pungency. A feature of the way the farm operates is that the olives will be crushed within hours of picking which is done by selectively by hand.

During 2008 a modern Italian olive oil press was installed. Old buildings were renovated to provide a modern clean production facility which includes a small shop from which the pressing operation can be observed.
Pressing takes place between march and july.

PRODUCTS
The farm is home to the brands Karoo Virgin and Kredouw Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
These are supplied in various container sizes - 1 litre cans, 500 ml cans, 500 ml bottles, 250 ml bottles. For customers wishing to use the product in their restaurant kitchens 5 litre plastic containers are available.
The Karoo Virgin 1 litre can as depicted in the photo makes an excellent gift. The design concept was introduced by Mr Anders Paulsson, a friend from Sweden who is constantly a source of ideas and enthusiasim. The plan is to create a series of cans in variable sizes with differing labels and oil varieties with a view to providing an interesting collection.
